We have a new deck in our range that will soon help many skaters to become more confident, stylish, comfortable and successful in skateboarding. In this article, you will find out what it is all about and what sets this skateboard deck apart from all the others.

What is the current standard?

There are many different deck sizes that are measured in inches. The width of the deck is taken into account, which also defines the "name" of the size. So an 8.125 is 8.125'' wide.

Until now, it was common to consider smaller decks with a width of less than 7.75'' as children's sizes. In reality, however, a narrow deck does not help children.

The most important thing for child-friendly skateboards

A decisive factor in how well a skateboard deck fits your body size is the "wheelbase" . This describes the distance between the two axles. When skateboarding and landing tricks and jumps, you have maximum stability when your feet are exactly over the axles. However, as the deck width decreases, the wheelbase does not decrease. This leads to a disproportion that causes problems especially for small skaters. In order to stand on the axles or land, a small person has to place their feet much further apart.

What exactly was adjusted?

The wheelbase of the Short & Wide decks has been carefully tailored to each individual deck width. This means that a riding experience can be offered that is almost perfect for the corresponding body size, which is otherwise only available to adults due to the selection of sizes and shapes above 7.75'' decks.

There is also another adjustment that will also have a strong positive effect on the progress of young skaters!

The angle at which the nose and tail of the skateboard deck are bent affects how the skateboard behaves when it "pops" . A pop is when the nose or tail is pressed down onto the ground, which catapults the skateboard into the air and initiates any trick. Unfortunately, this angle is very distorted in the skateboard sizes that children can choose from. As already described, the wheelbase of smaller decks is not really tailored to the width of the decks for children. Instead, the length of the skateboard is compensated for by shortening the nose and tail. This creates a different pop angle. Since there is no extra truck height specifically for small decks, and the pop angle is already very steep by shortening the nose and tail, it is almost impossible to do a high ollie with the usual small decks.

That’s why the pop angle of the Short & Wide decks was also corrected.
