The most important thing about skateboard trucks

Structure & Function

Skateboard trucks consist of several components:

  • The baseplate: Is screwed to the deck
  • The hanger carries the wheels and makes grinds possible
  • The kingpin and the bushings control the steering behavior
  • The axle connects your wheels with speed rings , washers and axle nuts

These components influence how your skateboard steers, how stable it rides, and how tricks can be performed.

What axle width do I need?

The truck width must match your deck width . As a general rule, the wheels should be flush with the deck. Small deviations of 0.125" are acceptable—there shouldn't be any more play.

Note: Each brand specifies its axle sizes differently.

For example:

  • Independent 149 → fits decks with approx. 8.5″ width
  • ACE 44 → also suitable for approx. 8.25–8.5″ decks

To help you find the right size, we indicate in each product which deck width the respective axle is suitable for .

What axle height do I need?

  • Low Trucks → for small wheels & technical tricks
  • Mid / Standard → ideal for Park & Street
  • High Trucks → for larger wheels, e.g. for bowl, vert or cruiser setups

Steering behavior & fine-tuning

The bushings (steering rubbers ) influence how soft or hard your axles steer:

  • Soft bushings → agile & responsive
  • Hard bushings → stable at higher speeds

With the kingpin nut you can adjust the steering behavior even further:

  • Firmer → harder steering
  • Looser setting → more freedom of movement when carving or cruising

For an even lighter setup, some models are available with hollow axles. These are lighter due to reduced material in the kingpin or axle pin.
